Setting Up Your Folder — Building a Structure That Accumulates

Chatting with AI is one thing. Having AI read, edit, and create your actual files is another.

That second thing is what makes mydoo different from a chat window. But it requires connecting a folder. AI needs to sit where your files live before it can work alongside you.

This guide walks you through creating a project folder and getting AI to work inside it.

The mydoo folder structure — just two things

When mydoo installs, it creates two folders on your computer.

1. Butler Folder — Where light, ongoing conversations and notes accumulate. Pre-project thinking lives here.
2. Project Folder — Where scoped, serious work goes. Every time you create a new project, a subfolder appears here automatically.

Both are created on whichever drive mydoo selects. You don't need to memorize the paths — asking AI to "find it" works.

1. Create a new project

From Doo Home, press + New Project.

Type a name. That's it. A folder with that name is created automatically inside the project folder. No need to open File Explorer and make folders by hand.

Select the project and Doo Desk opens — the workspace where AI operates inside that project folder.

2. Doo Desk — where AI works with files

The Doo Desk screen has three areas.

• Left — Project folder explorer. The actual file and folder structure.
• Center — Editor. Open a file here to read or edit.
• Right — AI chat. Instructions here execute inside the folder on the left.

Tell AI "create a draft outline in this folder" and you'll see the file appear in the left panel. Chat and file system are connected.

3. Bring in existing files

Already have files? Drag them into the left panel explorer, or copy an entire folder into the project folder.

The moment files are inside the project folder, AI can read them. "Summarize this doc," "pull data from this spreadsheet," "write a proposal based on this brief" — if the file is there, it works.

4. Doo Folder — the view layer

Doo Folder is a separate screen for browsing what's accumulated.

If Doo Desk is for making, Doo Folder is for looking. Working with collaborators? Their files show up here too — no back-and-forth sending required.

5. Start messy — AI sorts it out

Don't spend time designing the perfect folder structure before you begin.

Ask AI "help me organize this folder" — or just drop files in and ask for a cleanup later. Inside mydoo, AI handles the organizational work that usually falls on you.
